FAQs

Maldives Travel FAQs

Who is this Maldives group tour for?

Our Maldives Island Hopping trip is designed for travellers in their 20s and 30s who want a fun, social and adventure-focused way to experience the Maldives.

It’s perfect for solo travellers, couples and small groups of friends who want to meet like-minded people, explore local islands, swim with marine life and enjoy a safe, inclusive group travel experience.

Is this Maldives trip good for solo travellers?

Yes! This is one of the main reasons people book with Indy Escapes.

Around 70% of our guests join solo, with the rest usually made up of couples or small groups of friends. The trip is designed to be social from day one, so you’ll have plenty of chances to meet people, share experiences and become part of the Indy Fam.

What age group joins this trip?

This Maldives group tour is aimed at travellers in their 20s and 30s.

The vibe is social, relaxed and adventurous — perfect for people who want more than a standard resort holiday.

What makes this different from a normal Maldives resort holiday?

This is not just a resort stay.

Our Maldives island hopping tour takes you beyond the typical honeymoon-style holiday and into the real Maldives. You’ll stay on local islands, travel by boat, snorkel reefs, search for marine life, enjoy beach dinners, meet local guides and still get time to relax in paradise.

It’s the Maldives with more adventure, more social connection and more memorable experiences.

Which airport do I fly into?

You should fly into Velana International Airport, also known as Malé International Airport.

The airport code is MLE.

This is the main international airport for the Maldives and the starting point for our Maldives Island Hopping tour.

Are airport transfers included?

Yes, return airport transfers are included.

Your Indy Escapes representative will meet you at Velana International Airport on the first day of the tour and help organise your transfer to the island.

Return airport transfers will also be arranged for departure day at the end of the trip.

Exact meeting times and transfer details will be confirmed before departure.

Do I need a visa for the Maldives?

For most travellers, the Maldives offers a tourist visa on arrival.

This is usually straightforward, but entry requirements can change, so please check the official Maldives immigration guidance before travelling and make sure your passport meets the entry requirements.

You may also be asked to show your return flight, accommodation details and travel documents on arrival.

Is the Maldives safe?

The Maldives is generally considered a safe destination for travellers, especially on the local islands and tourist routes used during our trip.

As with any destination, we recommend taking normal travel precautions, looking after your belongings, respecting local customs and listening to your Indy Escapes guide during boat trips, snorkelling and ocean activities.

What marine life can we see in the Maldives?

The Maldives has some of the best marine life in the world.

Possible sightings on our Maldives group tour may include whale sharks, nurse sharks, manta rays, eagle rays, stingrays, turtles, dolphins, reef sharks, leopard sharks, pilot whales and colourful reef fish.

Wildlife is wild, so sightings can never be guaranteed. However, our local guides know the waters well and plan each trip around tides, currents and conditions to maximise your chances of unforgettable marine-life encounters.

Are whale sharks, manta rays or turtles guaranteed?

No. Marine life is never guaranteed.

The Maldives is the wild ocean, not a staged experience. Our aim is to spend as much quality time in the water as possible, giving guests the best chance of seeing incredible wildlife while keeping the experience safe and respectful.

Do I need to be a strong swimmer?

You don’t need to be an expert swimmer, but you should be comfortable in the water.

Some activities involve snorkelling from boats, swimming in open water and being around marine life. Life jackets and support can be provided where needed, and your guide will explain the safety rules before each ocean activity.

If you are nervous in the water, please tell your Indy Escapes representative at the start of the trip so we can support you properly.

What is included in the trip?

Your Maldives Island Hopping trip includes accommodation, return airport transfers, island transfers, daily breakfasts, selected lunches and dinners, and a range of included ocean and island activities.

Exact inclusions may vary slightly by departure, so please check the live itinerary and your travel voucher for the most up-to-date details.

What additional costs are there?

Some meals, drinks, alcohol, tips and optional activities are not included.

Optional extras may include activities such as resort visits, scuba diving, water sports, sunset cruises, night fishing or additional island experiences, depending on the departure and local availability.

Your Indy Escapes representative will explain optional activities, prices and timings during the trip so you can decide what you want to join.

How much spending money should I bring?

This depends on your personal spending style and how many optional activities you choose.

Meals at local cafés and restaurants can often be affordable, while resort visits, scuba diving and water sports will cost more.

As a general guide, bring enough for meals not included, drinks, optional activities, tips, snacks and souvenirs.

We recommend having a mix of card and cash, with some USD in good condition for optional activities where required.

How much is a meal in the Maldives?

Local meals can often cost around $5–$15 USD, depending on where you eat and what you order.

More Western-style restaurants, hotel restaurants or tourist-focused spots may be higher, usually around $10–$25 USD per meal.

You can also buy snacks, soft drinks and basic supplies from local shops.

What if I have dietary requirements?

Please let us know your dietary requirements before travel.

Whether you are vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, have allergies or have another special request, we will do our best to help.

Your Indy Escapes representative will also reconfirm dietary requirements at the start of the trip so we can keep you safe and make sure you’re looked after.

What should I pack for the Maldives?

We recommend packing light, comfortable clothing for warm weather and ocean activities.

Useful items include swimwear, reef-safe sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, sandals, a reusable water bottle, dry bag, GoPro or camera, light cover-up clothing for local islands and any personal medication.

The Maldives is sunny, salty and boat-heavy, so bring clothes you don’t mind getting wet.

Can I drink alcohol in the Maldives?

Alcohol rules in the Maldives depend on where you are.

Alcohol is not available on local islands, but it may be available on resort visits or designated tourist boats. Your Indy Escapes guide will explain what is and isn’t possible during the trip.

Please respect local customs and island rules at all times.

How do I book a Maldives trip?

Booking is simple.

Send us a booking enquiry, choose your preferred departure date, pay your deposit and receive your confirmation.

Once confirmed, you’ll receive your travel voucher and pre-departure information so you can get ready for your Maldives Island Hopping adventure with Indy Escapes.
