This town in tropical North Queensland has developed a reputation as a tourist and backpacker hotspot, and with reason. It provides convenient access to some of the Great Barrier Reef's most beautiful areas, including the Atherton Tablelands and the Daintree Rainforest.


Numerous tour operators are eager to take you on a day- or multi-day trip to snorkel or dive the Great Barrier Reef: excellent crew, excellent food, and an outstanding underwater experience.

The most popular attractions in Cairns revolved around the region's unique natural environment and abundance of indigenous wildlife. There are small theme parks where Cairns solo traveller can observe and interact with animals such as kangaroos, koalas, snakes, and even crocodiles. At the same time, the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway provides an incredible bird's eye view of this magnificent region.




You can interact with indigenous people and learn about their ancient culture and traditions, or you can discover the splendor of the tropical islands off the coast, the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef, and a variety of beautiful beaches on one of the many available holiday cruises. If, on the other hand, you're looking for a more indulgent way to spend your time, The Esplanade is the place to go.


The Esplanade

A visit to Cairns would be incomplete without a stroll down the Esplanade, which is lined with boutique shops, the Cairns Casino, markets selling a variety of local art and craft, cosmopolitan cafes, trendy bars, and a world-class selection of restaurants. The Esplanade Lagoon is nearby and is popular among singles in Cairns. This massive pool is shaped like Queensland and is equipped with shallow areas, water fountains, and lifeguards daily.

There are sooo many options for things to do in Cairns! Every time you venture out, we recommend joining an organised tour so that you will have the chance to meet other solo travellers in Cairns. Some of the options include, Great Barrier Reef, Mossman Gorge, Draintree Rainforest, Karunda Markets, Fitzroy Island, Crocodile Farms, Bungee Jumping, Zip Lining, Quad Biking and even Sky Diving.


Palm Cove

Are you eager to take advantage of the city's balmy temperatures and long sunny days? Palm Cove is wedged between the Unesco World Heritage rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef. This little patch of paradise offers an instagram worthy stroll through and endless boardwalk of palm trees situated along one of the best beaches in the country. Being a lot more relaxing and slow paced than its big sister Cairns, this amazing pit stop, can also substitute for a week long escape from the world.


Liveaboard

Additionally, "liveaboard" dive expeditions are an excellent way to get up close (and frequently) with the underwater kingdom. You can even jump aboard a multi day trip boat and venture future out into the Great Barrier Reef. There are options which range from 2 days to 10 days and depending on seasons, you can even join an expedition to see the minki whale migration.


Nightlife

There are a number of pub crawls in Cairns, which collate all of the the singles and solo travellers in Cairns, into the one spot then send them out of a night on the town! Like most places in the world, Pub Crawls are great way to meet other singles and solo travels in the area, which would even turn into your new travel buddy, once you move on from here!


The most iconic place to meet people in Cairns, is Gilligans! Gilligans is one of the funnest places to party in the country with a semi-out door bar, huge dance floor and best of all it is linked up to the biggest hostel in town.
